Taylor has demonstrated sound knowledge and understanding of the structure and features of a recount. There is evidence of adequate planning, and the introduction and conclusion are appropriate. Simple time connectives, verbs and some relevant technical language have been used. The use of tense is consistent, and the punctuation and grammatical features are mostly appropriate for the text type. An adequate range of strategies has been used to spell most words, and the handwriting is of consistent size. To improve, Taylor could work on editing and paragraphing, and increase the use of complex sentences and adjectives. This work sample demonstrates characteristics of work typically produced by a student performing at grade C standard midway through Stage 2.

They use accurate sentence structure, grammatical features and punctuation conventions to produce various texts and spell familiar and unfamiliar words using knowledge of letter-sound correspondence, common letter patterns and a range of other strategies. Students use joined letters when writing in NSW Foundation Style and develop basic desktop publishing skills. Students explain how they structure their writing to achieve intended purposes.
