Pat has demonstrated a thorough understanding of the features of an information report. Relevant information has been recorded and appropriately structured in paragraphs with subheadings. There is a high level of technical language and effective use of compound sentences. Pat has demonstrated a high level of competence in note-taking and editing. This response could be improved by the use of complex sentences, additional adjectives, stronger desktop publishing skills and a concluding statement. This work sample demonstrates characteristics of work typically produced by a student performing at grade B standard midway through Stage 2.

The student has a thorough knowledge and understanding of the content and a high level of competence in the processes and skills. In addition, the student is able to apply this knowledge and these skills to most situations.

  • Writing
    Students write well-structured literary and factual texts in terms of topic, purpose, audience and language by drafting, revising and proofreading. They use accurate sentence structure, grammatical features and punctuation conventions to produce various texts and spell familiar and unfamiliar words using knowledge of letter-sound correspondence, common letter patterns and a range of other strategies. Students use joined letters when writing in NSW Foundation Style and develop basic desktop publishing skills. Students explain how they structure their writing to achieve intended purposes.
