Work Samples - Grade B

The work samples for this grade, together, assist teachers to gain a common understanding of the standard of work typically produced by students whose performance, on balance, matches the description for Grade B.

At the end of Stage 5 for the School Certificate, student achievement is reported using the Course Performance Descriptors. Read more about School Certificate Grading.

Activity: Composing Medieval Music (View Activity…)

Students compose a piece of music reflecting the features and structure of music of the medieval or renaissance periods.


Activity: Composing for Percussion (View Activity…)

Students will work in pairs to create a composition that explores characteristics of the piece 'Defying Gravity' for between four and eight contrasting percussion parts. The work should be produced on computer, and must include both a score and a recording.


Activity: The Music of Sarah Hopkins (View Activity…)

Students will compose a work that demonstrates an understanding of the compositional processes and techniques used by Sarah Hopkins, using a photograph of the Australian outback as stimulus material.


Grade B

The student has a thorough knowledge and understanding of the content and a high level of competence in the processes and skills. In addition, the student is able to apply this knowledge and these skills to most situations.
