Ricky has demonstrated an understanding of some of the conventions of a short story in this sustained response. Although this work sample goes beyond the opening and into the complication of the story, there is a sense of character, situation and mood. The narrator has a distinctive voice and conscious choices have been made in terms of language structures and features. There are some clichéd phrases but the work sample is technically competent. This work sample demonstrates characteristics of work typically produced by a student performing at grade C standard at the end of Stage 4.
