Description of activity
Students design a tour of Sydney for a specific group of Japanese tourists that does not include the usual tourist attractions. They use the information sheet provided and create a presentation (PowerPoint, video, segment for a radio program or brochure) of their tour. Students also keep a journal which provides details of their planning. Students are to write their presentation in Japanese, although the journal may be written in English.
Context
Students have been discussing places in Sydney that would appeal to Japanese tourists. They know how to express time, periods of time, give descriptions, use connectives to link ideas and communicate ideas and intentions.

Students will be assessed on their ability to:
- select places that are not part of a usual tour of Sydney
- design an interesting and creative presentation for a specific group of Japanese tourists
- provide details of their planning
- convey information and express own ideas by selecting and incorporating particular linguistic structures, and make linguistic choices to enhance intended meaning
- demonstrate effective communication in a clear and cohesive text by applying grammatical rules and conventions consistently
- apply knowledge of the conventions of the writing system by:
- writing hiragana accurately
- using katakana for words borrowed from other languages
- writing kanji in the appropriate context.
