Description of activity
Students individually compose a work using a photograph of the Australian outback as stimulus material. Using this material, they compose a piece that demonstrates an understanding of the compositional processes and techniques used by Sarah Hopkins. This composition is to be performed for the class.
Context
This task comes from a five-week unit of work on the compulsory topic Australian Music. In this unit several works were explored but teaching and learning focused on the development of an understanding of the style and music of Australian composer Sarah Hopkins. Activities focused on two of Sarah Hopkins's works: Score Eclipse and Past Life Melodies.
