Inspirational Bags - Evaluation Report

Grade Work Samples
End of Stage 5 (end of Year 10)
Grade C Casey   Darcy

Description of activity

Students will evaluate their recently completed bags. Various colouration and decoration techniques have been incorporated as part of the surface design.

Students are required to provide a written report evaluating the project work they have recently completed.

The report should include:

  • the bag's performance criteria detailing functional properties and aesthetic aspects
  • an explanation of materials, equipment and construction techniques selected in the production of the bag
  • consideration of the bag's quality.

Context

This activity is from the unit of work, Inspired Bags, in Stage 5 Textiles Technology. In this unit students explore the creative process of design. Students identify sources of inspiration and use the creative process to develop and produce personalised bags. Colouration and decoration techniques are incorporated in the bag design giving students the opportunity to gain skills and develop confidence in technique application. Students have creatively documented and presented design development, production and evaluation of project work.

This activity focuses on students compiling a report on which their project work is evaluated.

Outcomes

A student:

5.1.1 explains the properties and performance of a range of textile items

5.1.2 justifies the selection of textile materials for specific end uses

5.5.2 selects appropriate techniques and uses equipment safely in the production of quality projects

5.6.1 evaluates textile items to determine quality in their design and construction.

Criteria for assessing learning

(These criteria would normally be communicated to students with the activity.)

Students will be assessed on their ability to:

  • identify and describe the functional and aesthetic performance criteria of the bag
  • justify the selection of materials, techniques and equipment in the production of their bag
  • evaluate their bag to determine the quality in design and construction.
