Guidelines for marking

The following guidelines for marking show one approach to assigning a value to a student's work. Other approaches may be used that better suit the reporting process of the school. Categories, marks, grades, visual representations or individual comments/notations may all be useful.

8-10

(High)

  • demonstrates a comprehensive understanding of the properties and characteristics of metals
  • uses a combination of metals and finishes to enhance aesthetic appeal of project
5-7

(Satisfactory)

  • demonstrates a sound understanding of some properties and characteristics of metals
  • successfully uses a combination of metals to enhance aesthetic appeal of project

1-4

(Progressing)

  • demonstrates limited understanding of the properties and characteristics of metals
  • demonstrates limited consideration of aesthetics in final project.

Construction

Range

A student in this range:

11-15

(High)

  • independently identifies and responds to workshop risks and hazards
  • demonstrates a high level of proficiency and skill when undertaking complex practical processes and techniques

6-10

(Satisfactory)

  • takes appropriate actions to minimise identified risks and hazards in the workshop
  • demonstrates proficiency and skill when undertaking practical processes and techniques

1-5

(Progressing)

  • requires close supervision and monitoring when using tools and equipment
  • performs elementary practical operations with some degree of success.

Feedback

Whilst undertaking this Activity, students will be provided with regular and ongoing feedback including:

  • discussion between teacher and student during the production and at the completion of the project which could also include individual demonstration of specific techniques and processes
  • oral and/or written feedback on safe working practices during the production of the project
  • a final mark for the completed project (that may incorporate mark sheet with written and/or oral feedback)
  • peer-evaluation and self-evaluation of completed practical project.

Future directions

This Activity serves as a preparation for undertaking more substantial practical projects in Jewellery Specialised Modules 3 and 4.
