The composition demonstrates creativity in its use of rhythms and changing metres which ‘drive’ the piece along to a successful climax. The melodic and harmonic ideas show stylistic understanding and reflect the emergence of a personal compositional style. The score is clear and well marked with dynamics and expressive techniques, but sometimes the piano writing becomes non-idiomatic. Occasionally there are anomalies between the score and the recording.
