Candidate successfully demonstrates an understanding of the jazz style. A detailed knowledge of score conventions is evident with a good sense of instrumental part writing and attention to score detail. There is interesting interplay between the parts, melodic ideas are well developed and organized. Harmonic progressions are effective although these tend to be overused. Textural changes create variety, in particular, the drum solo.
