Other Work Samples for:

Jamie has demonstrated a high level of competence in creating and continuing number patterns. Challenging, accurate number sequences increasing by sixes and eights and extending beyond 100 have been created but correct mathematical language has not been used to describe the patterns or make generalisations about number relationships. To develop further, Jamie should explore decreasing number patterns and provide better mathematical descriptions. This work sample demonstrates characteristics of work typically produced by a student performing at grade B standard midway through Stage 1.

Grade B

The student has a thorough knowledge and understanding of the content and a high level of competence in the processes and skills. In addition, the student is able to apply this knowledge and these skills to most situations.

Foundation Statement strands

The following strands are covered in this activity:

  • Working Mathematically
Students ask questions and use objects, diagrams and technology to explore mathematical problems. They link mathematical ideas and use everyday language, some mathematical language and diagrams to explain how answers were obtained.
  • Patterns and Algebra
Students describe, create and continue a variety of number patterns and relate addition and subtraction facts to at least 20.
