Taylor has demonstrated sound knowledge and understanding of the structure and features of a procedure. Numbers have been used to sequence the steps and a variety of action verbs and commands have been used. Present tense has been consistently used but adverbial phrases have not been included. An adequate variety of spelling strategies has been used but the handwriting is inconsistent. To progress further, Taylor could use capitals to begin each step, and work on letter formation and consistent spacing between words. This work sample demonstrates characteristics of work typically produced by a student performing at grade C standard at the end of Stage 1.

They write using basic grammatical features and conventions of punctuation, showing awareness of different purposes, audiences and subject matter. Students spell using knowledge of sight words, letter-sound correspondence and other strategies. They write using letters of consistent size and slope in NSW Foundation Style and use computer technology to produce texts, recognising simple conventions, language and functions.
