Ariel has demonstrated sound knowledge and understanding of the text type. There is evidence of effective planning, structure and organisation for an information report. Simple present tense has been used but the report is quite brief. Some descriptive language has been effectively used to add detail but there is little technical language. Simple and compound sentences have been used. The punctuation and grammar are adequate but the use of pronouns could be more varied. The spelling of familiar words is correct and there is evidence of the use of strategies to spell unfamiliar words. The handwriting is consistent in size and slope. This work sample demonstrates characteristics of work typically produced by a student performing at grade C standard at the end of Stage 1.

They write using basic grammatical features and conventions of punctuation, showing awareness of different purposes, audiences and subject matter. Students spell using knowledge of sight words, letter-sound correspondence and other strategies. They write using letters of consistent size and slope in NSW Foundation Style and use computer technology to produce texts, recognising simple conventions, language and functions.
