Work Samples - Grade B

The work samples for this grade, together, assist teachers to gain a common understanding of the standard of work typically produced by students whose performance, on balance, matches the description for Grade B.

Activity: Listening - Analysis of a Piece (View Activity…)

Students complete a listening task based on a piece using the worksheet provided.


Activity: Composing (View Activity…)

Students compose a piece of music to demonstrate an understanding of structure as it relates to the 12-bar blues progression.


Activity: Listening - Love is in the Air (View Activity…)

Students complete a listening task based on the song 'Love is in the Air' from Strictly Ballroom.


Activity: Performing/Composing Pitch (View Activity…)

Students compose and perform a piece of music using pitch ideas such as Dorian mode, repeated pitch patterns, drones, inverted pitch patterns and canon.


Grade B

The student has a thorough knowledge and understanding of the content and a high level of competence in the processes and skills. In addition, the student is able to apply this knowledge and these skills to most situations.
