Taylor has produced a sustained, imaginative composition. Language conventions have been used confidently and a mature personal style has been displayed. Taylor has successfully established the mood and tone to evoke character and situation. There is variety and sophistication in the vocabulary and sentence construction. Taylor has effectively combined first person narration and dialogue with a clear point of view. There is a strong use of narrative voice and the reader is involved through the use of asides and direct comments. The use of dialogue is effective, particularly in establishing the characters of the mother and brother. The responders are challenged to ask questions, although too many of these are answered for the reader towards the end. There are very few errors in spelling and punctuation. This work sample demonstrates characteristics of work typically produced by a student performing at grade A standard at the end of Stage 4.

Grade A

The student has an extensive knowledge and understanding of the content and can readily apply this knowledge. In addition, the student has achieved a very high level of competence in the processes and skills and can apply these skills to new situations.
